Fishing Contest Quest

By: Oli

(This is a members-only feature.)

Start Point: Talk to Austri the dwarf, located north of the heroes guild at the tunnel to Catherby
Requirements: You must have level 10 Fishing to complete this quest; a high tolerance for walking long distances in Runescape is recommended
Items Required: You need to obtain a clove of garlic (from the second floor of Morgan's house in Draynor Village), a spade, 100 gold coins, and a normal fishing rod

To start this quest, talk to Austri the dwarf who is located by the tunnel to Catherby, north of the Heroes guild in Taverly. Act like you're actually interested in what he has to say, despite his complete lack of manners. Eventually you'll get him to say how the tunnel is a shortcut through the mountain of the white wolves.

Austri will tell you how he has a hard time making - err, trusting friends. So, in order to use the shortcut you'll need to earn his trust. Easy enough, right? Austri will give you his Hemenster Fishing Contest Pass since he realizes that there is another thing he isn't good at, besides personal hygiene and manners.

So, with your fishing pass you should head to the Hemenster Fishing Contest, area located on the path to Ardougne from Seers Village (north of Ardougne, near the Fishing Guild). Once there show your fishing pass to Morris and he'll let you pass through.

Don't get too excited yet though, you have to talk to good ol' Grandpa Jack before we get to the fishing festivities. Jacky-poo is located in the cabin right outside the fishing gate. Ask him about some tips and he'll give you some good info!

After talking to Jack you'll find out that the "Sinister Stranger" is a vampire! Thank heavens you brought your garlic with you! But before disposing of the terrible vampire you must first get some bait for fishing. Grandpa Jack says that he used to go to McGrubor Woods, just north of his house.

Head to the McGrubor Woods and find the loose railings located at the back of fence, noted by a red "door" symbol. Once inside be careful, because there are level 44 guard dogs ready to eat your brains if you don't watch out. Find the red vines and click the check vines option. You'll dig using your spade and keep doing this until you obtain 3 red vine worms.

After finally obtaining your worms you're ready to go and dominate some vampire booty in the fishing contest. Return to the contest area and tell Bonzo that you're ready to enter, paying him the 5 coins. You'll find out you have the spot next to the willow tree, however Jack said the best spot is by the pipes, where that vampire homie is chilling. Head over to those pipes and use your garlic with them.

Once the competition starts the vampire won't be able to stay in the spot by the pipes due to the garlicy smell and will offer to move to the willow tree spot, leaving you in for the clear. Now all you have to do is click on the fishing spot and you'll catch your 3 carps to win the competition! Once you turn in your carp to Bonzo you'll recieve your prize, the golden fishing trophy. Just return to Austri and handover the trophy and collect your reward!

Congratulations! Quest complete!
