Items Needed: 1 swamp tar, 1 yellow dye, 50 coins, 10 Giant Eagle feathers (gained during quest), 1 Varrock Teleport, 2 Ardougne Teleports or Dramen or Lunar Staff for use of the Fairy Ring Combo "A K Q"
Skill(s) Required: 27 Hunting
Quest(s) Required: None
Start Point: Talk to Charlie near the south gate of the Ardougne Zoo
To start this quest, talk with Charlie near the south gate of the Ardougne zoo. He will send you to Eagle’s Peak, which is nestled directly between the Piscatoris Fishing Colony and the Tree Gnome Stronghold, to speak to Nicklaus.
Follow the path up the peak, where you'll find a boulder blocking the pass. There is an agility shortcut nearby that allows you direct access to the camp, if you climbed the peak.
Search the books on the ground by the tent to get a book about birds. Read that to get a metal feather which can be used as a key on the boulder. Climb back up and do so.
You will appear inside of the Giant Eagle's nest. Go southeast and find a middle area of the cave near a ledge. Nicklaus should speak to you then from across the ledge. If not, right click on him and “shout”.
Learn that you will need to go to the fancy dress shop in Varrock and have two eagle disguises made (one for yourself and one for Nicklaus) in order to fool the eagles into allowing him to escape. Before leaving, gather 10 giant eagle feathers from the piles on the cave floor.
Return to the cave. You will now need 3 special feathers to get through a door to access the area where Nicklaus is being held. Refer to the map below to find out the locations of each feather.
The Gold Feather:
Note: If ever you should get stuck, just outside of the entrance there is a lever named "Reset". Pull this should you ever feel that you missed a step.
1. Walk south until you see a bird feeder on the west. Place some feed in there.
2. Walk south, then west, then north until you reach the lever. Pull it.
3. Walk north from there until you see another lever. Pull it.
4. Walk southeast and place some feed in the far east feeder.
5. Move to the bird feeder that is adjacent to the previous feeder and place some feed in there.
6. Pull the now open east lever.
7. Walk back to the lever described in #3. Pull it.
8. Place some bird feed in the nearby feeder.
9. Move to the west and pull the lever.
10. Move to the southwestern bird feeder and place some feed in it.
11. Move east to the next nearest bird feeder and place some feed in it.
12. Follow the center path to the west and take the feather from the pedestal.
The Silver Feather:
Go into the cave labeled "Silver Feather" on the map. Search the pedestal and follow the tracks as you would if you were tracking. You will eventually be led to an opening which you will inspect and a low level kebbit will come out for you to fight. Kill it and it will drop the Silver Feather.
The Bronze Feather:
In the center of the room, a bronze feather rests delicately on top of a pedestal, which is (not very obscurely) surrounded by a net. Attempt to take the feather and the net will raise the pedestal above your head. Operate the winches found in all four corners until they can go no further. After that whole ordeal is done, take the feather.
Once all three feathers have been obtained, you may open the door. Use the feathers on the door and it will unlock. Go north and be sure to be wearing your disguise to “walk past” the giant eagle there. Give Nicklaus his disguise and he will have you meet him at his camp to show you how to catch a ferret. He provides the box trap and you even get to keep it.
Return to the Ardougne Zoo and give Charlie the ferret to complete the quest.
Ferret Hunting: Place box traps outside of Nicklaus's tent. You will require their aid when you go Rabbit Hunting. Refer to the Hunting Guide for more information.
Eagle Transportation System: After completing the quest, you may now use the eagles in the other part of the room to fly to those respective Hunting areas! This is handy if you don't have a Dramen or Lunar staff, or just don't want to walk to the bank to get it out. In order to fly via the eagles, you must first use a rope with one of them (rope respawns in both the main and destination nests). The following demonstrate how to unlock the cave entrances:
Desert Eagle: Head directly north from the Orange Salamander hunting area until you come across a cave. Push the boulder.
Polar Eagle: To the east of the Polar Kebbit tracking area (northernmost part of the Polar Hunting Grounds), you can climb up a few handholds to access this place.
Jungle Eagle: Use a spar (obtained from the Tai Bwo Wannai Cleanup minigame) on a vine near the cave entrance. Wait a while and the vine will have grown long enough for you to climb up to the entrance.
