Shield of Arrav Quest

Start Point: Speak to Reldo the Librarian in Varrock Castle
Requirements: About 100 gp & a friend to help you do the quest

To start this quest, talk to Reldo the Librarian in the library of Varrock Castle (the library is in the northern part of the first floor), and ask him for a quest.

He'll tell you that if you want a quest, you should look for a book about the Shield of Arrav. Search for the bookcase with the option “check” instead of “search" to find the book.

Read the book. At this point, you and your friend should decide who will be in what gang - one of you needs to be in the Phoenix Gang, and the other in the Black Arm Gang.

Phoenix Gang

If you are going to be in the Phoenix Gang, talk to Reldo again. You will ask him about the Phoenix Gang. He tells you to find Baraek, the fur trader in the marketplace. Go to the marketplace in the center of Varrock and talk to Baraek.

He will ask for 20 gold coins for information. Pay him and he will tell you where the Phoenix hideout is. Go to the middle of the most southern path in Varrock. You will see a little room with a dungeon symbol on your map. Go down the ladder to go to the Phoenix Gang hideout. Talk to Straven.

Tell him that you know who he is and offer you his services. He mentions Jonny the Beard at the Blue Moon Inn and asks for you to kill him and bring him a report. Go west from the hideout to the Blue Moon Inn. Go inside and Kill Johnny the Beard.

Take the scroll he drops and return to Straven. Talk to him. Straven admits you into the Phoenix Gang. Enter and head to the most southwestern room. Search the chest and you will find half of the shield.

Black Arm Gang

Head south from the Palace. Just south of the sword shop, there is a tramp, Charlie.

Ask what is down the alley. He will tell you it is the hideout of the Black Arm Gang. Go down the alleyway and enter. Talk to Katrine and tell her that you know they are the Black Arm Gang.

Do not reveal your sources to Katrine. Ask to become a member of the gang. She will ask you to steal a couple of crossbows from the Phoenix Gang.

Getting the crossbows requires a friend who is a member of the Phoenix Gang. Get the Phoenix Gang weapons key from your friend. East of Charlie the Tramp is a small little room with a locked door, next to the church. You may enter this door with the key you got from your friend. Go upstairs and the Weapon Master (level-23) will need to be killed before you steal the crossbows - you can get your friend to do it, or someone else, as long as they have the key.

When you have the two crossbows, return to the Black Arm hideout and talk to Katrine again. She will admit you into the Black Arm Gang. Go in the hideout, and up the stairs. Search the cupboard to find the shield half.

Conclusion

Take your shield half to the museum in northwestern Varrock, and talk to the Curator. He will take your shield half and give you two scrolls. Give one of these scrolls to your partner. Talk to King Roald in the southeast chamber of the Varrock Palace to complete the quest.
