Desert Survival

By: Data/Loggy

The Kharidian Desert is members-only.

The Kharidian Desert south of Al Kharid, accessible through the Shantay Pass, is a dangerous place. Besides being home to many fierce enemies and challenging quests, the heat of the desert can get to you, and you will take varying amounts of damage over time, and this can get dangerous.

Luckily, there are ways to prevent this. First off, you can purchase white Desert Robes - the robe tops, robe bottoms, and boots. These clothes will help protect you from the desert heat. What you will also need are waterskins - which can also be bought from Shantay - pouches that hold 4 'drinks' of water. You will automatically take drinks from these to protect yourself from the desert, and these can be refilled at any water source.

Item	Price	Notes
Desert Shirt	40 coins	While wearing both the shirt, robe, and boots are the most effective, you can wear one or two parts of the desert outfit to protect yourself from the heat
Desert Robe	40 coins	While wearing both the shirt, robe, and boots are the most effective, you can wear one or two parts of the desert outfit to protect yourself from the heat
Desert Shirt	20 coins	While wearing both the shirt, robe, and boots are the most effective, you can wear one or two parts of the desert outfit to protect yourself from the heat
Waterskin	30 coins	It is recommended to have 2-3 waterskins (each with all four drinks in them) total in your inventory during desert treks

It can be annoying to take up inventory space with waterskins and always have to be refilling them during long treks, but there is a way to stop this. If you have completed the Dealing With Scabaras Quest, with level 50 Magic & Runecrafting, you can create an Enchanted Water Tiara by using Water Runes with a regular Water Tiara. This enchanted tiara automatically protects you from the heat and thirst of the desert. All water runes used on the tiara will be absorbed by it, but you can get them back by selecting the 'destroy' option on the tiara.

An alternative option to surviving for long periods in the desert is to refill your waterskins using the water found in cactii (cactuses), which are abundant in the desert. You can use a knife on a cactus to try and get water from it. The higher Woodcutting Level you have, the easier it will be to get water.
