Arr, and welcome to the Trouble Brewing Mini-Game. This game is one of my personal favorites as it involves two of the best things ever: pirates and RUM! So, anyways in this mini-game you will form two teams, which will compete against each other to make the most rum! Now, you might ask important questions such as, “WHERE IS THE RUM, or WHY IS THE RUM GONE?” Why?

Please remain calm as I assure you these questions will be answered later in the guide. All items required for this mini-game can be obtained at the actual mini-game. No head items are allowed to be worn into the area. It is also recommended that you try to keep your weight as low as possible, as energy is important in this mini-game.

Trouble Brewing is located on Mos Le'Harmless, which is only accessible if you have completed the Cabin Fever Quest quest, which enables you to sail to Mos Le'Harmless. Once you arrive on Mos Le'Harmless head north into the jungle and then east until you see the buildings.

Getting Started

There are two teams you can join in this mini-game. The Red team, lead by the handsome Fancy Dan, and the blue team, led by the dashing San Fan. The red team is located in the western tower and the blue team in the eastern. If you are not sure which color you like more then you could talk to Honest Jimmy who will send you to the team needing the most help!

Once you choose the team you want to join you will be entered into the waiting portal. Depending on the team you choose you will also be wearing either a lovely red pirate's hat, or a stunning blue bandana.

Each team must have 3 players in order for a game to start. All the items you will need can be found on the tool store table.

Game Overview

In this mini-game you can either brew rum or sabotage the other team to prevent them from brewing rum. This game relies heavily on teamwork, so you should try to assign your other two teamates jobs as well as yourself before the game begins to help your team win!

Refer to the above map through out the guide as a refernce. Also note the picture belows, which shows the interface while playing the game that shows how your team is doing, as well as equipment in the hoppers and so on.

Furthermore, each team's still has its own inventory space which has equipment for the team. Please note you have 10 of each repairable section; when you run out you'll need to make more using the logs on the nearby workbench.

Brewing Rum

There are five ingrediants each team will need to grab before tehy can make some rum. You will need bitternuts, sweetgrubs, Scrapey Tree bark, coloured water, and water.

Coloured Water
Three bowls of coloured water is needed to make one bottle of rum.

You will need three bowls of red or blue water to make some rum, depending on your team. The water colour should match your teams colors. To make coloured water, you must travel to the other teams still, where flowers of your own teams color will be growing. Grab some flowers, then head back to your own still. Use the flowers on the kettle, then use a bowl on the kettle to get a bowl of coloured water. Repeat until you have what is needed.

Bitternuts
One bitternut is needed to make one bottle of rum.

You will need a bitternut, which is pretty much just a coconut. The bitternuts, however, are too far up in the bitternut trees to be snatched - so, naturally, you're going to need a monkey.

On the center island in the area there are several monkeys. Use your agility skills to 'catch' a monkey. It will be put into your inventory. One person can hold only two monkeys at a time in their inventory. When you do have one, you have to make sure of it's allegiance to your team - so get yet another bowl of coloured water that matches your own teams colors, then use it on your monkey. When your monkey hath turned your teams color, use it on a bitternut tree. If an enemy monkey is in the tree, they will fight; you can give your monkey instructions if you are wearing an Amulet of Monkeyspeak. Hopefully your monkey will make it out with a bitternut.

Sweetgrubs
One load of sweetgrubs is needed to make one bottle of rum.

There are sweetgrub mounds scattered about the Trouble Brewing area, and you will need a piece of meat to get some grubs from the mounds. When you have a piece of meat, use it on a mound. You may be able to get a load of sweetgrubs, after which you won't be able to get any more grubs from that mound for a small period of time - or you will anger the sweetgrubs, who will attack you in the same manner that the 'swarm' random event does.

Scrapey Tree Bark
One load of Scrapey Tree Bark is needed to make one bottle of rum.

Scrapey Tree's dot the area, and to collect the bark you will simply need to grab a hatchet from your teams tool space and use it on the tree. There is no woodcutting level required to obtain the bark, but a higher level will allow you to get some bark quicker. You may get diseased while chopping.

Water
Five buckets of water are needed to make one bottle of rum.

The simplest ingrediant is of course water. Each still has it's own pump (which can be sabotaged) which can be used with buckets to obtain water, or you can use buckets on the body of water in the center of the map.

The Hoppers

The ingredients need to be placed in the correct hoppers, labled below:

Fueling The Boilers

Each still has three boilers which need to be filled with logs from the surrounding area and then ignited to fuel the rum making contraption. Each still has a log store that stores logs, so one team member could chop wood with a hatchet and put the logs in there while another team member takes the wood from the store and uses it on the boilers.

The main brewing overlay shows whether the furnace is at the right temperature or not. On average it takes ten logs burning to bring the boiler up to the correct temperature, and it consumes one log per minute.

Packaging Rum

When the hoppers have the minimum amount of ingrediants in them and the boilers are running correctly, all the players on the team that have collected ingrediants will be informed, and they will be able to see the bottle coming and grab it. If you didn't contribute anything into the hoppers, you can't see the coming bottle and won't be able to grab it. Players then have one minute to run to the end of the still and grab the bottle when it is done, whence it will automatically be packaged and your team will gain a point.

Image Error: Image does not exist

If there is already a bottle of rum in the still's end, when a new one is made it will push the old one out and it will fall to the floor and shatter, and you can't gain any points.

Sabotage

Due to the Pirate's Code set down by the brethren Morgan and Bartholomew, you can't attack the other team directly - however, you can screw around with their equipment.

You can destroy your enemies stills by grabbing a torch and tinderbox from your own still's equipment table. Light the torch with the tinderbox, then head over to the other teams still. There are several still sections that can be set on fire. Simply use a lit torch with a still section to set it on fire. It will continue to take damage until it is destroyed - it can take five levels of damage before it is destroyed.

There are several bridges in the area - these can be burned in the same manner, using a lit torch.

Repair

While you can also sabotage your enemies area, they can do the same to you! Thus you will need to be able to repair what breaks.

To repair a still section, you have to first put it out by using a bucket of water on it. Then you will need to click the 'repair' option of the section. The hoppers and the main body of the still will require you to have some planks in your inventory, which are used up as you repair the section. You will need bamboo pipes for every other part.

Bridges, which are much larger, require more water to put out, and will require you to have bridge sections in your inventory. The bridge cannot be walked on until it is completely repaired. Each team starts out with 10 pipes, planks and bridge sections on their tool table when the game begins, but you will probably run out. Thus you'll have to take a hatchet and chop down nearby trees and take the logs to the workbench to craft whatever they need.

The opposing teams trees can also be set on fire, and if they are not put out by the owning team, the tree will take much longer to regenerate than if normally chopped down.

Besides the material rewards that you can earn by playing Trouble Brewing, you also receive xp in a number of skills for a number of things.

You can also buy some blue or red rum, both of which will teleport you back to Trouble Brewing when drunk.

Lastly, for 5,000 pieces of eight, you can purchase a level-2 clue scroll (see the Treasure Trails Guide for more info) from Honest Jimmy - in light of the games theme, it's a pirate treasure map.
