Note: This is a 'dangerous' mini-game. If you somehow die, you will your items - in addition, your cat can die!

Location: Various sewers beneath a few cities (Varrock, Falador, Keldagrim & Port Sarim)

Requirements: Must have completed the Rat Catcher's Quest, must have some sort of cat (kitten, cat, overgrown cat, and wiley cats all work), some amount of coins needed to bet; Amulet of Catspeak recommended (obtained during the Icthlarin's Little Helper

Like most fathers think that their daughters are the cutest girls of all (excluding the abusive crooked guys you see on Dateline), most Runescape players think their pet cats are the toughest, meanest felines around (except for me - I hate my kitten) - cool cats, if you will. Well, you can prove your claims in Runescape's various Rat Pits by betting on your cat against other players' cats.

Game Overview

When you're ready to ruthlessly risk your pets life in the interest of gaining some money (don't let those animal rights activists get wind of things), stop and make sure that you do, in fact, have a cat. The following cats are acceptable:

Feline

Quote
Kitten
"Meow!"
Cat
"Purr."
Overgrown Cat
"Preeow?"
Wiley Cat
"This and more tonight on 60 Minutes!"

Anywho, when you're ready, head to the appropriate pit to begin betting. Don't know the said appropriation, you say? Have no fear! Each pit is located in some sort of sewer under a city. These pits have rats in them of course, and they start off like sissy rats and as the pits progress, the rats get tougher and more dangerous.

So when you go to the right pit, you need to find another player there with some sort of feline. Thus you can select to challenge them, where you and your opponent must agree on a wager of gold - at least 100 gp is required for each bet. When you agree on a wager and hit accept, the two of your pets will be entered into the rat pits and will race to kill rats. The first one to kill the specified amount of rats wins.

Cat Tactics

That's right - catactics. By way of the Catspeak Amulet (from the Icthlarin's Little Helper Quest), you can give you cat some instructions on how to be the best, and the only way to be the best is to win the best or something like that. The table below shows the things you can tell your pet and its effects.

Outcomes

Worst case scenario: you lose both your wager and your pet. Then you discover the real use for all those caskets.

You can only lose if your cat dies (vengence is necessary), runs away (has he no honor? you'll get the pet back in this case), or the opponent cat defeates the required amount of rats before yours. You'll lose your money either way. On the other hand, if your opponents cat runs away, dies, or your own cat beats him to the rat quota, you win and get your opponents wager!

You can also draw. Each pit round has a time limit of two minutes. If neither your pet nor your opponents die or run away, or reach the rat quota in time, the round is declared a draw and both of you get back your wager.

But that's boring.
