Extra Info
When you were a little kid did you enjoy games such as Connect Four? Then you'll love the Games Room. It's full of games guaranteed to make you nostalgic or at least give you a bit of fun. The Games Room is an awesome place for any RS player sick of the grind. It's a great place to just relax and show off your mad skills in games. The Games Room is located in northern Burthope. It is the castle-like building.
Games Overview
There are four games total in the Games Room. A quick description about them can be found below, as well as where to find them.
Draughts
Draughts is a game much like Checkers. In fact, it's the exact same. The object of the game is to take all of your opponents pieces before they take yours. It's a fairly simple game.
Runelink
Runelink is a game based upon Connect Four. Oddly enough, thats what you do. Connect four of your pieces before your opponent does to win this game!
Runeversi
Runeversi is a game just like Reversi. The point of this game is to basically "reverse" your opponents pieces into becoming your own! In order to win you must gain all the pieces.
Runesquares
Runesquares is a game that involves creating squares using lines. You want to get as many squares as you can in order to beat your opponent.
Locations
The map below depicts the areas of the games room.
Blue: This room is the Draughts room. It's located directly to the left of the room with Sam.
Red: This room is the Runelink room. It's located directly to the right of the room with Sam.
Green: This room is the Runesquares room. It's located directly to the left of the Draughts room.
Pink: This room is the Runeversi room. It's located directly to the right of the Runelink room.
The Games
Now that you have a general idea of the Games Room, lets go into each game in more detail.
Draughts:
Draughts is a game of skill and having a keen eye is a must! It's basically a game of checkers as I said earlier. The way to win this game is to remove all of your opponents pieces by jumping over them when you can. To "jump" a piece you need to have your piece next to your opponents and an open square after it. You then jump the piece and land on the open square.
Rules:
- You can only move diagonally.
- A normal piece must move forward.
- You can become "Kinged" by moving a normal piece to the other end of the board. A kinged piece can move both forwards and backwards. Your piece will turn red if it becomes kinged.
Tips:
- Try to make good opening moves. Strong opening moves can lead you to swift victories in the end. Try to keep the center of the board as your main focus, as this allows you to control more of the action. Do not get stuck!
- Try not to allow your opponent to reach your last row so they can become kinged. Kinged pieces often lead to losses. Try to keep your last row filled so that it's impossible for your opponent to become kinged.
- King as many pieces as you can! If you are able to move forwards and backwards with multiple pieces your opponent will be at a distinct disadvantage.
- Look for double jumps. (When you can jump two of your opponents pieces at a time.) These lead to winning games![/b]
Double jumps allow you to eliminate two birds with one stone. Very useful if you can find them!
Runelink
Runelink is exactly like the game Connect Four. All you are trying to do is get 4 pieces in a row without your partner noticing. You must also not allow them to get 4 pieces in a row first! It is a very simple game, but if you don't pay attention you can lose very fast.
Rules:
- You and your partner will alternate turns until someone gets 4 pieces in a row.
- You can place a piece anywhere on the board; however the piece will fall to the bottom.
- If there is a piece already in the row you choose then your piece will stack upon the existing piece.
- You can get 4 in a row vertically, diagonally, or horizontally.
Tips:
- After your opponent moves try to find out where they are planning to go and stop them. By keeping track of your opponent's moves you can easily plan moves to stop them. This leads to victories!
- Look for sneaky places to connect 4. If you can find places where your opponent would not look to connect four go for it! This way the opponent won't be able to stop you as easily.
- Try to make 2 ways of getting 4. For example, make it so you can get it vertically as well as diagonally. This way your opponent can only block one. If you make two paths then it will be two times easier to win the game! This is how I get most of my victories.
- Keep your eyes open. If you stop paying attention you will lose! If you don't watch your opponent's moves they will very easily beat you. Keep up your attention span!
Runeversi
Runeversi is a game much like reversi. It involves capturing your opponents pieces by surrounding them with your own. The way to win this game is to capture all of your opponents pieces and convert them to your own. You and your partner will switch off capturing each others pieces until finally one of you has all of your opponents.
There are no real rules for this game.
Tips
- Try to look for moves that capture lots of your opponents pieces at once! By gaining a lot of your opponents pieces at once you leave less of a chance for them to come back.
- Don't make stupid mistakes. By not making stupid mistakes you can keep as many of your pieces as possible.
- Check to see if you are giving your opponent an easy move. If you are giving your opponent easy moves then you are basically giving them the game. Keep an eye out.
Runesquares
Runesquares is a game that involves tricking your opponent into allowing you to create squares. The game is won by creating more squares than your opponent can. It's a very simply game and is very easy to learn. It's one of my personal favorites!
Once again, there are no real rules for this game.
Tips
- Never place the 3rd side if you can help it. By avoiding placing the 3rd side until the end you can keep your opponent from making squares as long as possible.
- Try tricking your opponent into making the third side. If you can trick your opponent into making the third side you are allowing yourself to make squares which win the game!
- Pay close attention. If you lose attention then you will lose the game! Make sure you pay close attention!
- Plan ahead your next move. By planning ahead your next move you will always be ready for what your opponent gives you. This is a great strategy.
- If you make one square, look for others that can be made! Normally when you make one square others will be formed. Look for these before your opponent finds them!
Rankings
In all games you start out with a ranking of 1000. In order to raise this ranking you need to win games! If you lose; however then you lose ranking points. Rankings are used to determine opponents within your gaming level. For example, if you are only at a ranking of 950 in Draughts you would not want to challenge someone with a ranking of 1300. They will be much better than you.
In order to see your ranking in each of the games you can look in the top right corner of your screen once you are in the game room.
