Duel Arena

By: Dilbert26, additions by Data/Loggy

(This is a members-only feature.)

Location: North-east of Al Kharid

Requirements: None

Note: This is a 'safe' Mini-Game. If you die, you will not lose your items (besides the ones you stake).

Area Overview
Dueling
Tournament

The dueling arena is one of the few places where players can fight each other. It can be either an agreed “stake” for items or just for fun, and here are even tournaments! Unlike the wilderness, you may fight anyone you wish, regardless of their level. Located North-East of Al Kharid, you can get their quickly by teleporting with a Ring of Dueling.

Area Overview

The entrance is just a wooden fence. When you enter, the only things of interest are to the left (if you were facing the wooden fence). If you walk clockwise around the arena, you will end up at a large building. Inside this building is a hospital where you can get healed for free. There is also an altar where you can charge your prayer if needed. In the center of the arena are six square arenas; three with obstacles, three without. You can climb the walls of these arenas and overlook the fighting below.

Next to the hospital you will find a bank chest and a crate of Rotten Tomatoes.

These tomatoes can be thrown at people dueling. To do this, buy a few tomatoes, which are sold for one gold each, then head to the top of the balcony which over looks all six duelling areas, three with obstacles and three without. Simply use the tomato on a player inside the dueling arena to throw it at them. Some people may be too far from the balcony to hit them.

Throwing tomatoes will NOT interfere with people who are dueling.

Dueling

To challenge a player to a duel, the main attraction of the Duel Arena, you must be standing in the designated dueling zone, marked by a battleaxe in the bottom right of your playing screen.

Right click on the player you wish to duel and select the “Challenge” option. The player will then be informed of your request. To accept your duel, they must right click on your character and select the challenge option.

When the duel is accepted, a screen will pop up displaying a variety of options. This is also the screen in which you will decide what to stake, if anything. You can only stake items with a combined maximum value of your maximum spending limit (determined by quest points), and you may only win/lose that same amount every fifteen minutes. If you die during a duel, you will only lose what that you have wagered, and reappear back in the arena, instead of Lumbridge or Falador.

You may also choose what items you can and cannot use during the duel. Simply click on the item slot to disable use of any item worn in that slot. Items will automatically be removed before the duel starts. There are also a number of other options available to choose from.

Note: Disabling either one of the hand slots will prevent players from using two-handed weapons. This includes bows!

The following is a list of the options available:

Option
Description
No Range
Disables all types of non-magic range attacks
No Melee
Disables all hand-to-hand combat
No Magic
Disables all types of magic attacks
No Sp. Atk
Disables the use of special attacks
Fun Weapons
With this option on, you cannot use regular weapons; you may only use 'fun' weapons, such as a rubber chicken or flowers
No Forfeit
This prevents you or your opponent from leaving the arena during a duel
No Drinks
Disables any type of drink, potion, or alchohol
No Food
Disables eating during the duel
No Prayer
Disables the ability to use prayers
No Movement
This option disables the ability to move during the duel
Obstacles
This option will put you in an arena with obstacles; used mostly for ranging or maging duels

Again, always double check the rules of the fight before accepting. A lot of people try to switch the rules at the last second. Once you are satisfied with the rules, click accept and duel will begin.

Once inside the arena, there is a three second countdown before you can commence fighting. In these three seconds you should drink up your potions, if allowed, turn auto retaliate on or off, choose the right fighting style and whatever else you may want to do. A big yellow arrow will appear over your opponents head so you can easily pick them out if other players are fighting in the same arena with you.

The duel will continue until a player forfeits, if permitted, or until one player dies. You may only attack the one person you accepted to duel while inside the arena. After the duel is over, a screen will appear displaying any items you won aswell as your opponents name and combat level. You will automatically be healed and your special bar will be fully rejuvenated. There is also a handy scoreboard near the entrance of the duelling arena which shows the last fifty duels on the server.

Tournament

You can also enter dueling tournaments by climbing down the ladder just outside the hospital building. This will take you to an area made for dueling tournaments, though dueling tournaments are restricted to certain worlds. See the list of worlds on www.runescape.com to see which are tournament worlds.

There are five registrars that run tournaments, and each registrar requires a different tournament ranking, which changes varying on how successful you have been during tournaments.
  • Registrar 1: Ranks 0 - 1700

  • Registrar 2: Ranks 1600 - 1800

  • Registrar 3: Ranks 1700 - 1900

  • Registrar 4: Ranks 1800 - 2000

  • Registrar 5: Ranks 1900 - 3500

Beginners should choose registrars one or two. The rules of the upcoming tournament will be shown to you with a button to register. Tournaments run every 10 minutes, and the registrars will not start running tournaments until there are enough people in the registration room.

Tournaments can have 2 - 64 players, so you can end up winning a cash prize 64 times the entry fee, with a maximum entry fee of 1,000,000 coins. Things get pretty intense. Tournaments are fought in rounds, and when you enter a tournament, the game screen will give you all the information you need while waiting, and there is a bank in the area. Your tournament rank will go up depending on your current rank, your opponents rank, and the tournament value.

Good luck dueling!
