Slayer EXP Quest Rewards

The Slayer skill allows you to kill strange new creatures which would previously have been immune to your attacks. These creatures have been hording treasure for a long time, previously undisturbed and because of that you will find greater rewards from killing them.

The Basics

To start the Slayer skill find one of the Slayer Masters which are located in various places around RuneScape. There are 5 Slayer Masters in total, each categorizing to different strengths. They can be found in Burthorpe, Morytania, Edgeville Dungeon, Zanaris, and Shilo Village. The Slayer Master will assign you to kill a certain number of a specific type of monster, by killing those monsters you will gain experience in the Slayer skill.

Slayer Masters

Slayer masters are the people you are going to be seeing a lot of if you ever wish to progress in this skill. You have to see them in order to recieve your next slayer mission.
Note: The below chart is in order of difficulty (easiest to hardest)

Slayer Assignments

As you've learned, each Slayer Master, when asked, will assign you a various amount of monsters to kill. Each master assigns a different variety of monsters, varying on their skill level. Some monsters are regular NPCs, and others are Slayer-only Monsters (see the next section). Below is a table listing each master and, below the name of the master, a full list of all the known monsters he or she may assign.

Note: Slayer monsters are excellent for training on, even if you are not on a mission. This is because of their good drops and experience.

Slayer Items

While you begin training Slayer, you may realize that certain monsters are hard to kill or don't seem to be affected by your attacks. To fix these problems you need to buy specific Slayer items which affect different monsters in different ways.

Note: These items can be bought from any Slayer Master.

Please Note: If you do not wear the correct protection, you may get severe stats reductions in Attack, Strength, Defense, Agility, Prayer, Ranged, and Magic. If you do not use the proper finishing weapon, you may not be able to kill it because it will stay at one health until you use the right method to end it's life.

* - The Slayer Staff is a staff that you can obtain from the Slayer Masters. You need at least 55 Slayer to be able to equip this staff. The staff gives 12 magic attack bonus. You need this staff to be able to cast Magic Dart, which are one of the three things you'll need to fight Turoths and Kurasks. This staff is decent too, because it has wave spells, Magic Dart, and Crumble Undead for autocasts.

Slayer Locations

Below are a few maps and info of where you can find Slayer monsters.

Slayer Tower:

The Slayer Tower can be found north of the western entrance to Canifis from Varrock. It is a three-tiered mansion. The Slayer monsters on the first floor are Crawling Hands, Banshees. The second floor has Infernal Mages, Bloodvelds, and Aberrant Specters and the final floor has Gargoyles, Nechryaels, and Abyssal Demons.

Fremennik Slayer Dungeon:

The Slayer Dungeon can be found in Rellekka, southeast of the Fremennik Province. The entrance is past the Troll and her big cauldron. Inside it, there will be many Slayer-specific monsters. They are ordered from the entrance to the end: Cave Crawlers, Rock Slugs, Cockatrices, Pyrefiends, Basilisks, Jellies, Turoths, and finally Kurasks.

Lumbridge Swamp:

The Lumbridge Swamp is the most recent of the three areas where you can find Slayer Monsters. To get inside, you must have a lantern, or a candle, along with a tinderbox to keep it lit. A Spiny Helmet could also be helpful. The Slayer monsters found inside this cave are Cave Crawlers, Cave Bugs, Wall Beasts, Cave Slime, as well as Frogs, Giant Frogs, and Cave Goblins, which are unique to this area, but not Slayer-specific.

Mos Le'Harmless Caves:

The Mos Le'Harmless Caves are located Southwest of the Trouble Brewing Mini-Game Compound on Mos Le'Harmless. You must have completed the Cabin Fever Quest to access Mos Le'Harmless, and note that a lantern is required for the caves. Cave Horrors and Giant Bats are the only monsters throughout the cave.

Slayer Tips

The most optimum way to train Slayer is to use Vannaka(Edgeville)/Mazchna(Canifis) for fast levelling due to them giving easily beatable monsters in good quantities. It is wise to speak to Turael(Burthorpe) to get a reassignment if you ever get a difficult assignment, such as the metal dragons. The table below will tell you the recommended style to kill each Slayer Monster. Whatever type of combat is marked with an X - either melee, mage, or ranged - should be used to kill the identified monster. The last column will tell you what kind of equipment you should bring.

Black Mask

The Black Mask is a rather useful peice of equipment that is dropped by Cave Horrors. The Black Mask provides an attack and strength bonus similar to that of a Salve Amulet whilst wearing it during a Slayer Assignment. The mask also contains 10 spells that reduces your opponent's defence level by 3-10 each time, regardless of whether you are in a Slayer Assignment or if your opponent is another player. When all 10 spells are used, the attack and strength bonus remains. There is currently no way to recharge the spells.

Lastly, some enchanted jewelry, such as the Bracelet of Combat (which updates you with assignment information while slaying), can be a big help to you while you are training Slayer. See the Enchanted Jewelry section of the Crafting Guide for more info.

Extra Slayer Info

There are some other, extra things that you should know about while raising slayer:

Cape of Accomplishment

The ultimate reward for getting level 99 Slayer is not only the great ability you will have in the skill, but the Cape of Accomplishment that you will have the oppurtunity to purchase. For more information on Capes of Accomplishment, see the Skill Capes page.
