To start this quest, talk to Lucien, walking around the Flying Horse Inn in Ardougne. He's just south of Edmond's place, and for some reason isn't marked on the minimap.

Lucien wants to retrieve the 'Staff of Armadyl' from the Temple of Ikov, near Hemenster. He'll say that you can only kill the monster with a weapon of ice, and gives you a pendant to enter the 'chamber of fear'. For the first time going through this dungeon, don't take anything with you except the aforementioned cutting implement, light source, and lucien's amulet.

Head northeast of Ardougne to Hemenster. See the ladder and the dungeon entrance marker? That's the place. Climb down the ladder. From here, there are 3 options. The gate to the south is locked, so first lets take the stairs at the far end. The room is dark, but you have your lit candle.

Image

Walk to the end of the room and slash the web guarding the small cubby hole. Take the boots of lightness. Note that these boots reduce your weight by five, which is useful for general activity.

The north room is that 'chamber of fear' that Lucien mentioned. Wear his pendant and enter it. The room is filled with level 45 Skeletons, so make sure you can at least live. The door at the very end won't open, so you'll have to cross that sagging bridge. Wear your boots and cross it, making sure that your weight is 0 kg. Anything else and you'll take damage from falling into the lava. Grab the lever in the room.

At this point, exit the dungeon and get all your gear out. Return to the dungeon after you're equipped.

Use your lever on the lever bracket in the first room (with the ladder exit). This will open up the southern gate. Move through the cavern and search the various hidden chests for Ice Arrows. Each find will result in a small number of ice arrows, but you'll need quite a few to kill the next enemy.

Image

Each time you find a batch, the ice arrows will reset to one of the 6 chests in the cavern. At least 15 arrows should do the job. Watch for the level 61 ice spiders in here, as they can get quite annoying. Once you're done here, leave the cavern.

Head back through the north gate, into the side room north of the skeletons. See that lever? Check it for traps, and then pull the lever. The door on the other side will open. Head through it.

Try to go through the door on the other side, and the Fire Warrior of Lesarkus will spawn. You won't be able to kill him with normal weapons, which is why you need to equip your Ice Arrows and Bow. Dragonhide is also a good prospect, as the Fire Warrior is a mage. Turn on protection from magic if you can, and kill him. Go through the door after you're done.

Talk to the witch Winelda here. To get over the lava, you'll need 20 limpwurt roots. Sadly enough. If you don't have them, the best enemies to gather them from are Hobgoblins and Cockatrices. Either way, present 20 roots to her and she'll let you pass.

Once you're across, continue through the cavern. Go through to the very end of the corridor and pick up the Shiny Key, as it will be useful later. Push the rather obvious wall.

Image

You have two choices here as the guardians will react differently to you based on what you wear. Take off the pendant of Lucien if you wish to speak with them.

I'm pretty sure that 'choice' that Jagex mentions is here. If someone wishes to do so, go ahead and put up the 'other' choice, which is what I assume to simply take and deliver the staff to Lucien. Either way, you'll have to get to his place north of Varrock.

Image

I personally went on the good side, and picked up the Pendant of Armadyl from the Guardians. Just tell them that you need a bath, and they'll tell you to attack and kill Lucien.

Exit the temple from the nearby ladder just outside the wall, and you'll be in a small house near McGrubor's. Head to Edgeville, and head east across the bridge and southeast to find Lucien's hut.

Wear the pendant of Armadyl, and kill him.

The Shiny Key gets you entrance through that backdoor to the Temple of Ikov, and the decent training ground there. Those Boots of Lightness are very useful for general activity.
