Start Point: Exam Centre at the Digsite
Items Needed: Battered Key (see Elemental Workshop), Pickaxe, Hammer, 8 Coal, 2 Elemental Ores
Skills Needed: Level 20 Magic, Level 30 Smithing
Quest Requiments: Elemental Workshop Quest
To begin this quest, search in the northeastern bookcase in the southeastern part of the Exam Centre.
Read the book and you will put out a bookmark and you will read about a metallurgist called Viruvius who collaborated with a freelance mage. Over the course of two years they did many tests on elemntal ore and attempted to 'prime' the ore. Then it goes on to discuss how Virtuvius discovered that the mental energy of the elemntal metal was so bound, that no dissipation was detectable. After you read the book, read the scroll that you pulled out and it will look like a bunch of directions to an area.
At this point, head to Seers Village and down into the area where the elemental workshop is located, down the ladder in the anvil house, just west of the bank. If you really want to, use the directions from the code to try and find your way to the area where the key is. If not, keep reading.
Once down, head north into the room with the Water Elementals, and search the machinery on the western side of the room. You will find a key.
Head back a little south and attempt to open the large door on the floor with the valve on top of it.
Once you have unlocked the door, climb down the stairs into a large workshop. You will notice that the crane, the press, the wind tunnel, and the tank need to be repaired. At this point, head to the southern portion of the room, and take the lever and crane schematic from the crate.
The Crane: Head into the western room of the workshop, attempt to mine an elemental rock, kill an earth elemental and grab the Elemental Ore that it drops. With 4 Coal in your inventory, smelt the Elemental Ore into a Bar*. Use the Elemental Bar on one of the workbenches down in the workshop, and make a Crane Claw. Head down the stairs and south to where the crane is located. Operate the western "Old Lever" and the crane will lower itself, allowing you to repair it.
*Note: If you are not able to smelt in the furnace because it says the furnace is not hot enough, please use the Elemental Workshop Quest Guide to figure out how to get the furnace running again.
The Press: From the basement of the workshop, head up the stairs to the steel platform walkway (not upstairs to the first floor) and run to the western side and open the Junction Box. You need to attach the bottom left pipe, to the top right, then the others just go side-by-side to fix the pipes.
The Tank: From the basement of the workshop, head up the stairs to the steel platform walkway (not upstairs to the first floor) and run along the platform to the western corner (near the Junction Box). Search the crates there until you recover a pipe. Note: The location of the pipe may vary for some. If it is not located in the crate upstairs, it will be in one the crates downstairs. From there, run north and use that pipe on the broken pipe to fix the tank.
The Wind Tunnel: On the basement floor, search a few of the crates in the room until you find a small, a medium-sized, and a large cog in the crates. Note: The location of the cogs may vary for some. If they are not all located in the crates downstairs, they will be in one the crates upstairs. After you have found them all, head to the eastern side of the room where the wind tunnel is located. Use your cogs on the pins of the wind tunnel. When you are facing the pins, the large cog fits on the right side, the small cog on the top left side, and the medium cog on the bottom left side.
Once you have completed that, head down back towards the old crane to the south, and use an Elemental Bar on the Jig Cart. Operate the lever on the western side of the crane, then operate the lever on the eastern side of the crane. Once the crane is over the lava, pull the lever on the western side of the crane twice. Pull the lever on the eastern side of the crane again, then the western side again to lower it down onto the jig cart and then again to release it.
Just north of the old crane, pull the lever so that the jig cart rolls into the area where the Press is. Pull the lever near the pipes and the machine will flatten the bar.
Head back to the lever just north of the old crane, and pull it until the Jig Cart is inside the Tank. Head to the tank, in the northern part of the room, and pull the lever in front of the track. A large door will open. Just east of the lever, turn the corkscrew lever twice to take the flattened bar inside the tank. Pull the lever just west of that and it will shut the door. Just east and west of the tank, you will notice two water valves. Turn the valve to the west first, then to the east, and then back to the west to take the water out of the tank. Pull the old lever to open the door, then pull the corkscrew lever twice to lower the bar back down onto the Jig Cart. Make sure you pull the old lever again to shut the watertank door.
Head back to the lever just north of the old crane, and pull it until the Jig Cart is inside the Wind Tunnel. Run east to the wind tunnel, and pull the lever next to the tunnel. Pull it again to stop it once the bar has turned white.
Finally, head back to the lever just north of the old crane, and pull it until the Jig Cart is in front of you, and take the Primed Bar. Climb down the stairs in the northwestern section of the basement. Open the Mind Door to the east, use your Primed Bar on the Extractor Gun, and then operate the Extractor Hat. Once you are done, take the Primed mind bar from the Extractor Gun.
Head all the way back up and use your Primed mind bar on the workbench to receive a Mind Helmet.
Congratulations!! Quest Complete!
