Start Point: Speak to Dimintheis in East Varrock
Items Needed: Gp, Combat gear, Fishing equipment optional, 2 rubies, an Antipoison, Runes to cast Death-level spells
Skills Needed: Level 40 Mining, Crafting, Smithing, level 59 magic, enough combat to defeat a lvl 170 Demon, Level 50 Fishing recommended
To begin this quest, speak to Dimintheis, in his house southeast of the eastern Varrock bank.
He'll explain to you that his estate was taken away from him, because he cannot show his Fitzharmon family crest to the king. He'll say that his son Caleb probably holds the family crest, and is a cook west of White Wolf Mountain. He'll ask you to find him.
Caleb is the chef in Catherby. Head to Catherby and speak with him. He'll explain that he has a piece of the crest, and that pieces of the crest were given to his brothers. He'll say that he'll give you a piece of the crest in exchange for helping him complete a fish salad. He'll want cooked Swordfish, Bass, Tuna, Salmon, and Shrimp.
Seeing as how you're in Catherby, you can go ahead and fish/buy the ingredients you need. When you're done, speak with Caleb again and ask him about the remainder of the crest. He'll mention his brother Avan, who was apparently searching in the desert for treasure. Crest part 1, complete.
There's only one desert in RuneScape, in Al Kharid. Get to the Mines north of Al Kharid, and speak to the Man there. He'll be too busy to speak with you, but Caleb mentioned that he had 'expensive' tastes. Speak to the Gem Seller near the Gnome Glider and mention Avan Fitzharmon, and he'll identify the man you spoke with earlier as Avan. Return to him, and he'll be slightly more amiable when you mention his name.
He says that he wants to impress a lady of noble birth with a ruby necklace and ring made with 'perfect' gold. He'll then mention a dwarf 'Boot', who should know where to find perfect gold.
Enter the central dwarven mines, and find Boot in the area just west of the everlasting fires. He'll say that the highest quality gold he knows of is in Ardougne, underground.
The gold mine you'll be looking for is southeast of Ardougne central, and has a dungeon entrance marker on it. Enter the dungeon, and make your way through the dungeon. What happens here, is that the 'perfect gold' mine (guarded by HellHounds), is locked by a lever mechanism and infested with ogres.
There are three main levers of concern:
1. The lever just outside the northern room, next to the door.
2. The lever inside the southern room.
3. The lever inside the northern room.
First, hit lever 1. This lever will unlock the eastern door on the southern room. Enter this room, and hit 2. Exit that room from the westernmost door (The east door will be locked at this point. Pull 1 again (at the entrance to the north room) and enter the room. Pull 3, exit the north room, pull 1, and then head back to the south room. Enter from the west door, hit 3, and exit from the east door. The gold mine door will be open. Mine two 'perfect' gold ore, and leave. Its best to mine in the corner in the picture, as the hellhounds are quite vicious.
Head back to Al Kharid and purchase ring and necklace moulds from the local crafter. Take your 2 rubies, and make a ruby necklace and ring from your perfect gold. (Smelt the perfect gold, then smith the perfect bars with your rubies.) Head back to the mines and speak with Avan again for his portion of the crest.
He'll give you his crest piece and tell you to find Johnathan, who was apparently demon-hunting in the wilderness, but spends his time recovering at an inn at the wilderness edge.
Head to the Jolly Boar Inn, northeast of Varrock. He'll be on the second floor in his room. If you speak to him, he turns out to be poisoned. Use an antipoison on him, and he'll explain that he's lost his piece of the family crest to the blood demon Chronozon, who is under the Obelisk of Air. He'll also explain that you need to use the 4 elemental death spells (Air, Water, Earth, Fire Blast) on him before he will be defeated.
Pull out your runes (or buy them from Aubury near the east Varrock Bank) and head to Edgeville's dungeon. Make sure to bring more than one cast of the elemental spells, in case they fail, and have a teleport ready in case a player killer arrives. Move into the wilderness, past the red spiders and level 45 skeletons to the Black Demon room. From there, head south to meet Chronozon. Hit him with the 4 elemental death spells, and then wail away at him with whatever you got (I kept using fire blast). He'll drop a crest piece, so take it and escape from the wilderness.
Once you're safe, head to a bank and put together your 3 crest pieces. Speak with Dimintheis again and present to him the completed crest to complete the quest.
Reward: 1 Quest Point, Steel Gauntlets which can be enchanted.
The steel gauntlets he gives you can be permanently enchanted by the three sons.
Cooking Gauntlets: Caleb the cook will make you cooking gauntlets, which will allow you to burn less seafood when you cook.
Goldsmithing Gauntlets: Avan the treasure hunter will make you goldsmithing gauntlets, which will give you boosted exp when you smelt gold.
Chaos Gauntlets: Johnathan the mage warrior will make you chaos gauntlets, which will improve your maximum damage by 3 when using bolt spells(Wind Bolt, Water Bolt, Earth Bolt, and Fire Bolt).
You can switch between them by paying 25k to the appropriate brother.
