Prayer EXP Quest Rewards

The skill that we know as prayer can be very useful. With prayer, a person can perform such acts as regeneration, superhuman strength and invulnerability to magic, combat and ranging. The ability to do so must be trained however, and the higher your prayer level, the greater the advantages you can gain from prayer are.

To use a prayer, open the prayer menu and a list of prayers will open. Click on the prayer you want to activate. If you want to turn it off again, simply click on it one more time.

Each of the prayers can be turned on or off individually. When you use a prayer, you are given an advantage depending on the prayer you choose to use. However, you can only use one prayer for each skill at a time. For instance you can have "Superhuman Strength" (raises strength) and "Incredible Reflexes" (raises attack) at the same time, but you cannot use "Improved Reflexes" and "Incredible Reflexes" simultaneously, since they both increase your attack.

If your Prayer level goes down to 0, all prayers you have activated will be deactivated and you will have to go to an altar to recharge or drink a Prayer Potion.

Prayers Info

  • Stat Boosting Prayers: You cannot 'stack' these prayers of the same type. For example, if you have activated the Rock Skin Prayer, which increases your defence by 10%, you cannot also activate the Thick Skin Prayer, which increases your defence by 5%

  • 2x Rapid Restore: You restore 1 stat point (attack, strength, etc., excluding prayer and HP) every 60 seconds without this prayer activated. If you activate Rapid Restore, you will restore 1 stat point every 30 seconds until it deactives and restarts the timer

  • 2x Hitpoint Restore: You restore 1 hitpoint every 60 seconds without this. When you activate Rapid Heal, it starts its own timer and you restore 1 HP every 30 seconds. When you turn it off, it restarts the timer and goes back to 1 HP every 60 seconds

  • Protect Items: You keep one extra item if you die, without a skull (for a total of 4 items kept when you die without a skull). It keeps the top four (or one if you're skulled) most expensive items RuneScape-value in your inventory or equipment. This means that you won't be able to keep a party hat over a wooden shield if you activated this prayer. If you die skulled, Protect Items still works even though you keep only one item

  • Retribution: Retribution won't hurt other players outside of PvP areas, and it won't hit multiple targets in non-multiway combat zones.

Prayer Equipment

Once you have raised your prayer level, you are going to want to go out and use it. Some prayers can be extremely useful if used properly. Once you activate your prayers, you will realize your prayer level is draining. Instead of walking to an altar each time you need to refill, you can slow it down by equipping items. The table below will link you to two pages containing information on equipment with prayer bonuses.

Holy Wrench

Obtained during the Rum Deal Quest, the Holy Wrench decreases the rate at which prayers drain your prayer points when in your inventory. Thus, you can have prayers activated longer with this wrench in your inventory.

Training Prayer

Training Prayer can be done in a variety of ways, but the traditional method is to bury bones usually obtained from killing NPCs or Players. This is also the only method of training Prayer available to Freeplayers. There are a large variety of bones in Runescape, some giving different amounts of Prayer experience than others. All can be buried at any Prayer level. A table containing information on the various types of bones is below:

Besides burying bones, there are other methods of training Prayer. These are given in the sections below.

Alternate Prayer Techniques

There are some alternate ways to level prayer, as well as extra prayer info, that you should know while leveling prayer. Info on all of this is covered below.

Ghasts

When doing the Nature Spirit quest, you will encounter level 30 creatures named Ghasts. They are located all over Mort Myre Swamp. To kill a Ghast, you must have a Druid pouch, a Sickle(b), and have lots of prayer remaining. Use the Sickle(b) to cast bloom next to logs, branches, or bushes. Once they have bloomed, they will produce fungi, little buds, or pears. Filling your Druid pouch with these items enables you to distract a Ghast rotting your pouch instead of your valuable food. Killing a Ghast grants you 30 experience points each.

Ectofuntus

The most cost-effective way to train prayer is to use the Ectofuntus just outside Port Phasmatys in Morytania. This involves a long but worthwile procedure. The Ectofuntus is a shrine which is part of the Ghosts Ahoy quest. You will have to complete Ghosts Ahoy to be able to do this process effectively.

First collect a bucket of slime from the slime pool several floors below the Ectofuntus. Do this by using a bucket on the slime pool.

Then head to the floor above the Ectofuntus. Use a bone to fill the bone grinder in that room, and then operate it. Collect the bonemeal from the grinder in a pot.

Then return to the Ectofuntus and choose the 'Worship' option.

You will gain 4x the Prayer experience that you would by simply burying the bone. The table below lists the experience values of using different kinds of bonemeal when worshipping the Ectofuntus:

Funeral Pyres

Another way to train prayer is to do Funeral Pyres, which is an unique method involving burning remains to free the spirit from the earthly world. For doing this, you gain prayer and firemaking experience.

Once you have completed the Shades of Mort'ton Quest, you can use the Firemaking skill in making Pyres in the town of Mort'ton to raise your Prayer skill. This requires olive oil (bought in the town's general store), a log of your choice, and the remains obtained by killing one of the various 'shade' monsters that roam around Mort'ton, or in the dungeon to the north-west of the town. Using the olive oil on the fire altar (located in the temple to the north of town) makes the oil sacred, and can then be added to the log(s) you have in various quantities, depending on the type of log. After that, you move to one of the many Funeral Pyres surrounding the town, use the Logs on the pyre, then the shade remains, and light the pyre with your Tinderbox.

This gives you a key that can be used in the dungeon to the north-west of Mort'ton, some of the more advanced keys yield treasure including material to make Splitbark armour for mages. Prayer experience obtained by this method varies for different log types, and for different types of shade remains. Details of experience gained from Funeral Pyres is shown below:

Extra Prayer Info

There are some other, extra things that you should know about while raising prayer:

Construction and Chapels

When you have Level 45 Construction, you will be able to create your own Chapel with it's own altar and incense burners. You can offer bones to the altar and gain experience, but when you light one or two of the incense burners, you can gain even more experience! For more information, see the Construction Guide.

Prayer Guild

The Prayer Guild is found in the Monastery west of Rimmington. It requires level 31 prayer to enter. Inside, there are various things that may assist you with your prayer. See the Prayer Guild Guide for more info.

Cape of Accomplishment

The ultimate reward for getting level 99 Prayer is not only the great ability you will have in the skill, but the Cape of Accomplishment that you will have the oppurtunity to purchase. For more information on Capes of Accomplishment, see the Skill Capes page.
