God Wars Dungeon Map

The God Wars Dungeon is serious stuff. It is easily the most dangerous place in Runescape - however it may also be the most rewarding. The God Wars Dungeon of course dates back to the God Wars - those who are familiar with the history of Runescape will know that more than two thousand years ago (Runescape time) there was a great war amongst the Gods. The Gods all had their own armies and servants, all fearsome - they fought against each other and some fought with each other.

The God Wars Dungeon is the thawed remains of an ancient and epic battle that occurred many years ago in Runescape, fought for power over the epic Godsword. It is in this frozen battlefield (now thawed out) that the armies have come back to life and are battling again. Legend has it that four gods have forces in the God Wars Dungeon, all of them attempting to keep the others from the Godsword, though three of them may cooperate in this situation against Zamorak, who is an enemy to all. In this dungeon, four gods have forces: Saradomin, the God of Light and Good; Armadyl, lord of the skies and father of the Aviansie; Bandos, the god worshipped by humanoid 'monsters, such as goblins, ogres, cyclopses and so on; and Zamorak, the God of Darkness and Evil, once a mere mortal and now a powerful deity.

Location

Before you even think about heading for the God Wars Dungeon, consider the risks. This is the most dangerous place in all of Runescape - do not bring anything you do not sorely want to lose, especially if it is your first time. Only extremely high level players are advised to even consider going to the dungeon. If you are going, make sure you have the best of equipment at hand. If you're ready, then read on.

God Wars Dungeon Entrance

The entrance to the God Wars Dungeon is north of Trollheim, bordering the Wilderness. You can easily get there by teleporting to Trollheim and walking from there (see the map above). Please note that the agility shortcut noted on the map can only be used to get from the God Wars Dungeon entrance to the Wilderness.

The God Wars Dungeon

From Trollheim, a rock will block your path to the entrance, and 60 Strength is required to move it. If you do not have this level, you can navigate through a tricky rock path with level 60 Agility. You will need to use a rope on the dungeon entrance if there is not one there. When you first select to climb down, the nearby dying knight will get your attention, and he will give you a paper to give to the leader of the Temple Knights, but you need not do this. You can proceed down into the dungeon after this.

God Wars Dungeon Map

The God Wars Dungeon is a frozen battlefield divided mainly into five parts. When you first enter the dungeon you will be in the center of the main battlefield, where forces from every god battle and will destroy anything in their paths. From this main battlefield there branches off four seperate chambers - each one belonging to a different god, and each one holding its own dangers and rewards. The next four sections will tell you about these areas. Consult the map for help.

In each god's territory (all of which require different things to enter), you will find the forces of that god. While in the God Wars Dungeon, you will see an indication in the upper right hand corner of the screen indicating how many of each army you've killed. When you reach forty in any of these categories, you can enter the chamber of the army leader of whatever army you've killed forty of - however, beware.

Each army has its own fearsome leader, and each leader has three fearsome bodyguards. They reside in a chamber in the back of each god's territory, wherein there are altars, though they can only be used once every ten minutes. All of these beings are extremely powerful, the weakest of them being only level 580. The Kalphite Queen is a mere joke compared to these enemies. Each of these armies are fighting in hopes of obtaining the Godsword, and with luck you can get it. Each god has created a hilt for it: Saradomin's priests created him a hilt; Armadyl's craftsmen constructed him a hilt; Bandos's ork smiths forged him a hilt; and Zamorak's powerful sorcerers created him a hilt. If you are strong enough, you could get any or all of these, and reap the rewards. See the Godsword section for more info.

Saradomin's Encampment
Requirements: Two coils of rope, 70 Agility

Saradomin's holy army has set up their encampment past the icy river of the God Wars Dungeon. The entrance is to the east of the main battlefield, and to enter you will need 70 Agility, along with two coils of rope. Saradomin's followers are holy and good, but they are a force to be reckoned with. The table below shows the ranks of Saradomin's forces, who use an even amount of melee, ranged, and magic.

Commander Zilyana (level 596)
Chamber Requirements: Must have defeated 40 of Saradomin's followers

The leader of Saradomin's vast army is one of the icyene, a winged race of fearsome warriors. Once you have killed 40 of the lesser members of Saradomin's army, you can enter the chamber in the back of the encampment.

Inside is Commander Zilyana and her three bodyguards, all of which are fearsome. Attack any of them and the others will also fight you. Commander Zilyana can drop anything that her bodyguards do, along with the Saradomin Godsword Hilt.

Drops
Starlight
149
Godsword Shards, Saradomin Sword
Growler
139
Godsword Shards, Saradomin Sword
Bree
146
Godsword Shards, Saradomin Sword

Tips and Tricks in the Encampment:

  • Any slashing weapon, such as a whip, or a crossbow with Enchanted Ruby bolts, or a Dark Bow with Dragon Arrows will fare well against Zilyana and her guardians.

  • Saradomin magicians are quite easy to distract if a Hellhound is nearby, so you can rake up some easy kill counts.

  • The Saradomin shrine will not let you pray at it while you are in combat, and you may not pray at it more than once every ten minutes.

  • Whenever you do pray to the Saradomin shrine, the more Saradomin-related items you are wearing, the greater your bonus. (Example: Wearing a Holy Symbol will give you 72/71 prayer; wearing full Saradomin Dragonhide + Holy Symbol will give you 76/71 prayer)

  • Using the Teleport option on the altar will take you to an area of relative safety, so long as you have an item of Saradomin on. It will not take you out of the dungeon.
  • Commander Zilyana will use a constant attack of magical lightning if you are far away from her, so protect Magic is advised. If you are too close to her, she will proceed to flay you alive with a very rapid hitting melee attack. Instead of protecting against it, run away.

  • Some other attacks of note: Starlight will use her horn to deal melee damage to you, Growler will roar with Magic damage, and Bree will use his bow and arrow to deal powerful range damage to you. It is not advised to protect against these individually as long as Zilyana is alive.

  • It is not advised to go into the chamber with fewer than four people including yourself.

  • If Commander Zilyana is not killed before her bodyguards, they will respawn.

Armadyl's Eyrie
Requirements: Crossbow, Mithril grapple, 70 Ranged

Armadyl, God of Law and Order, has stationed his armies to the southwestern corners of the dungeon, where you will find many a winged foe to tangle with you. Armadyl's army is entirely airborne, and made up mostly of the Aviansie, his own children. Because of their flight abilities, you will not be able to kill them with melee attacks - the soldiers can simply fly out of reach; thus, it is mandatory to bring ranged or magical attacks into the Eyrie. To enter the Eyrie you will need a Mithril grapple, a crossbow to fire the said grapple, and at least 70 Ranged.

Monster

Spiritual Mage
122

Kree'arra (level 580)
Chamber Requirements: Must have defeated at least 40 of Armadyl's followers

Kree'arra is just as impressive and powerful as any of the other army commanders. Since he is basically a massive, muscle-bound bird, he has a large advantage over most enemies, since he can swoop out of harms way. His bodyguards share this advantage.

Content Image

Fighting in Kree'Arra's chamber can be difficult since melee combat will not work against him or his bodyguards. Kree'arra can drop any of the items that his bodyguards do, along with the Armadyl Godsword Hilt.

Bodyguard
Level
Drops
Wingman Skree
143
Godsword Shards, Armadyl Helmet, Armadyl Chestplate, Armadyl Legs
Flockleader Geerin
149
Godsword Shards, Armadyl Helmet, Armadyl Chestplate, Armadyl Legs
Flight Kilisa
159
Godsword Shards, Armadyl Helmet, Armadyl Chestplate, Armadyl Legs

Tips and Tricks in the Eyrie:

  • While any ranged weapon will work against the Aviansie/Armadyl Spirit Warriors, the crossbow is most effective, since you're bringing one anyway.

  • The Aviansie frequently drop Adamant Bars, so using Adamant-grade bolts or higher is compulsory.

  • The Armadyl shrine will not let you pray at it while you are in combat, and you may not pray at it more than once every ten minutes.

  • Whenever you do pray to the Armadyl shrine, the more Armadyl-related items you are wearing, the greater your bonus. (Example: Wearing only an Armadyl pendant will give you 72/71 prayer; wearing the full set AND the pendant will give you 75/71 prayer)

  • Using the Teleport option on the altar will take you to an area of relative safety, so long as you have an item of Armadyl on. It will not take you out of the dungeon.
  • Kree'arra will attack with a fervent gust of wind, which is combined Magic and Ranged attack. If you are too close, he will swoop down with a powerful melee attack. It is advised that you keep your distance and have Protect Range on the entire time you are active in Kree'arra's chambers.

  • Some other attacks of note: Wingman Skree has magical-based cannons mounted on his shoulders, which will fire at you and hit hard. Flockleader Geerin uses the traditional Aviansie throwing spear to deal with her enemies. Flight Kilisa will get up close and swoop in to attack you. It is not advised to defend with prayers against any one of these attacks as long as Kree'arra is still alive.

  • While it is possible to attempt Kree'arra and his bodyguards with just one other person besides yourself, it is advised you have at least four or more people in the same room fighting.

  • If Kree'arra is not killed before his bodyguards, they will respawn.

Bandos's Stronghold
Requirements: Hammer, 70 Strength

Bandos is a god even lesser known than Armadyl. Worshipped by all sorts of gruesome creatures, the entrance to Bandos's Stronghold is in the western section of the main battlefield. Bandos and his legions allied themselves with various different fations during the course of the God Wars. To enter the Stronghold and meet the brutal army of Bandos, you will need a regular hammer and at least 70 Strength. The forces of Bandos, not being that intelligent, will mostly try to clobber you to death with melee attacks.

General Graardor (level 624)
Chamber Requirements: Must have defeated 40 of Bandos's followers

General Graardor is of the more terrifyingly powerful beings in the God Wars Dungeon. Wether he be some kind of wretched ogre, ork, or goblin, he serves Bandos by smashing his enemies about with his fists.

Content Image

Though it seems he would barely need it, Graardor has with him three cruel goblin sergeant bodyguards, ready to do his bidding, and they will be no help if you are trying to defeat the general. General Graardor can drop the same items that his bodyguards can, along with the Bandos Godsword Hilt.

Sergeant Steelwill

Sergeant Grimspike
142
Godsword Shards, Bandos Chestplate, Bandos Armour Tassets, Bandos Boots

Tips and Tricks in the Stronghold:

  • While any weapon will do decently against Graardor and his minons, it is advisable to bring either a Dark Bow + Dragon arrows combo, Enchanted Ruby Bolts, full Verac, halberds, or even a Godsword to deal powerful melee damage.

  • Unless you have a piece of Bandos armor instead of the Ancient Mace, you will not be able to kill anything inside the stronghold without being piled all at once. It's advised to kill the Goblins in the center-north part of the dungeon instead for kill count.

  • The Bandos shrine will not let you pray at it while you are in combat, and you may not pray at it more than once every ten minutes.

  • Whenever you do pray to the Bandos shrine, the more Bandos-related items you are wearing, the greater your bonus. (Example: Wearing only the Ancient Mace will give you 72/71 prayer; wearing the full set AND the mace will give you 75/71 prayer)

  • Using the Teleport option on the altar will take you to an area of relative safety, so long as you have an item of Bandos on. It will not take you out of the dungeon.
  • Unless you are relatively close to Graardor, he will attack you with a ranged attack, so leaving Protect Ranged is mandatory. If you are certain that he is coming after you, you must place on Protect from Melee and deal with him up close. He won't use his ranged attack if you're in melee distance.

  • It's compulsory to have at least five more players with you when you attempt Graardor.

  • If Graardor is not killed before his bodyguards, they will respawn.

Zamorak's Fortress
Requirements: 70 remaining Hitpoints

And wherever Saradomin is fighting, Zamorak is more than likely there opposing him. Zamorak has no allies, and he is an enemy of every god. Indeed, Zamorak has a fortress in the God Wars Dungeon, guarded by an icy river. Zamorak's Fortress may be the most dangerous area in the God Wars Dungeon. From the main battlefield, you will have to swim across to the entrance of the fortress, but only players with at least 70 HP left can make the swim. In the fortress, your prayer will drain to zero and a darkness will creep upon you that no light can pierce. Zamorak's dark forces are as evenly skilled as Saradomin's, so you must be prepared for everything.

K'ril Tsutsaroth (level 650)
Chamber Requirements: Must have defeated 40 of Zamorak's followers

Definitely the strongest and most terrifying creature in all of Runescape, K'ril Tsutsaroth may be the hardest foe you ever face. If you kill forty of Zamorak's followers, you can enter his chamber - if you dare. Regardless, Tsutsaroth will not be happy to see you, and his greeting will be only the flash of his twin cleavers.

Content Image

Though in no way does Tsutsaroth need protection, there are three fearsome demons in his chamber, fighting alongside the general, though they are but a joke compared to K'ril Tsutsaroth. K'ril Tsutsaroth can drop any of the items that his bodyguards can, along with the Zamorak Godsword Hilt.

The Godsword

The Godsword is easily one of the most powerful weapons in Runescape, if not the most powerful one. It is why the frozen battle in the God Wars Dungeon is being fought. The Godsword is a sword of epic proportions.

The Godsword is split into four parts: three shards and the hilt. The shards can be dropped by either of the four God Army commanders, or there bodyguards.

You can use any two shards on another shard to put them together if you have 80 Smithing. You can then use the third shard on the two-thirds completed sword (again if you have 80 Smithing). Adding any shards together will yield 100 Smithing experience, so making the completed hiltless sword will yield 200 Smithing experience.

When you have put together the three shards, you can add any one of four God Hilts, each with a different effect, which can be removed at any time for another hilt. These hilts are dropped only by the four commanders of each God Army. The Godsword requires 75 Attack to wield.
