Note: This is a 'safe' Mini-Game. If you die, you will not lose your items.

Location: Barbarian Outpost, south of the Lighthouse

Requirements: Must have completed the Bar Crawl Mini-Quest to gain entry to the Barbarian's Outpost

The Barbarian Assault Mini-Game is a fun, tactical fighting game that requires all sorts of thinking and roles. It is a lot like Pest Control or Castle Wars in the sense that you attack, defend, and carry out maitenance; however, in Barbarian Assault, you will HAVE to do one of those roles.

Requirements & Recommendations

There are no specified requirements to play Barbarians Assault besides access to the Barbarian's Outpost; however there are waves and waves of increasingly difficult monsters, so it would be to your advantage to have a higher combat level.

There are no items needed in Barbarians Assault, but good armor and a weapon that can use Aggressive, Accurate, Defensive, and Controlled attacking capabilities. Also note that you may not bring your own arrows or runes, so it is best to bank these items before you play Barbarians Assault, there is a deposit box in the main lobby.

Getting Started

To start this mini-game you must travel to the depths of the Barbarians Outpost located south of the Lighthouse on the mainland.

If you have an agility level of 37 you can use the shortcut located in the North-East corner of the Tree Gnome Stronghold, otherwise you will have to use the way nearest to the Baxtorian Falls.

Content Image

Before you can begin play you must speak to Captain Cain, as he is the tutor for the newer players. He rambles on a good bit, but it thoroughly explains the game, and you have to listen anyway.

Content Image

When that's done, you're free to go. Before we get into the game, let's go over the area. Aboveground, still in the main outpost, there are only two things related to the Mini-Game - the bank deposit box, and Commander Connad.

You can put things into the deposit box, and they are automatically sent to your bank; however you can't withdraw items from your bank from it. Commander Connad is also nearby: he is the one you go to for rewards. We will get into that later.

Game Overview

The object of the game is to defeat the Penance Queen in order to obtain Honor Points, these honor points can be used to buy the new Armor Jagex has provided for this mini-game. You can choose from 4 different roles, and these roles are fun depending on your preference for teamwork. You start out at level 1, but once you defeat the queen a few times and gain Honor Points, you can grow levels within each specific role. Although, no Skill Experience is given from this mini-game.

The Horn

To communicate with the other members of your team, you must use the horn that will be given to you at the beginning of the game. To succeed you must keep updating your team with the correct instructions so that you may maximize points. The Attacker's horn will instruct the Collector of what type of eggs to collect, whereas the Collector's horn will instruct the attacker on who to attack, and what type of combat implement to use. (ex Runes/Arrows/Melee)

The Healer's horn will instruct the Defender on what type of food to bait the Penance monsters with, whereas the Defender's horn will instruct the Healer of what type of poison to use on which monster. Please note that it is essential to use your horn, in order to play the game correctly.

The Horn of Glory

Content Image

The Horn of Glory is located to the SouthEast of the cave.

Content Image

The Horn of Glory is a very large horn, out of the way of the fighting, so the person using this horn probably won't be involved in anything at the moment. It is used to call out instructions to any other member of your team, so being that there are 5 players to a team, one player might want to stick with the Horn of Glory to give the other players a break on using their horns.

The Roles

As you've learned, you play on a four-man team during the Barbarian Assault Mini-Game. Each player has a different role - they either fulfill the role of Attacker, Defender, Collector, or Healer.

The Attacker

Content Image

The Attacker is a very limited position in the Mini-Game, your basic role is to eliminate the Penance Fighters and Rangers, but they wouldn't make it that easy, the Penance Fighters and Rangers can become immune to certain types of combat, so be sure to use your horns frequently so you can figure out how to attack the Penance Fighters and Rangers.

You only really need a good sword or a good bow, there is an item dispenser located by the door where you enter, that gives you 15 of several runes, and 15 arrows up to mithril.

The Defender

Content Image

The Defender's job is essential in this game, he has one duty, lure the Penance Runners into the traps located on either side of the mini-game area. The Defender uses the items he obtains in the item dispenser to lure the Penance Runners to the traps by laying a trail of the items for the Penance Runner to follow.

If you are a healer be sure to use your horn as the Penance Runners change what types of food they want to eat sometimes. The Defender can also build a barricade where the Penance Runners enter the Mini-Game area, to lighten the load a bit.

The Healer

Content Image

To be an effective Healer, you must make sure that absolutely no one dies within the cavern, and you must have a fair hand at poisoning monsters as well.

To heal your teammates you must collect a vial from your designated item dispenser, and then fill it with the healing liquid, located in the pool to the right of the item dispensers.

To poison the Penance Healers, you must collect poisoned food from your designated item dispenser, and use said food on said Penance Healer, please make sure the defender keeps you updated on what type of poisoned food to give to the Penance Healers.

The Collector

Content Image

The Collector's duty is to pick up the eggs that the Penance Monsters drop when they die, although make sure the attacker is telling you what type to pick up via horn, so you know which will work and which won't.

Content Image

The Green Egg's use is to poison Penance monsters for a limited amount of time.

The Red Egg's use is to explode and immediately damage a Penance monster and any other Penance monsters around it.

The Blue Egg's use is to implode when hitting a Penance monster which will stun the monster for a short period of time.

The Penance Queen

The Penance Queen is a very large grotesque beast of a thing with one very large eye-stalk and spider-like legs.

The Queen is who supplies the cavern with the friendly Penance monsters, and will not reveal herself until the Tenth Wave of monsters she asexually spawns.

The Queen cannot be defeated by any one player, or by the normal means of playing Barbarians Assault, she can only be damaged by certain Omega Eggs which can be created from the Yellow Eggs she lays.

The Omega Egg

The Yellow egg is laid by the Queen, it is picked up by the collector and passed on to the healer.

Content Image

To poison the egg the healer must take the egg and dip it in one of the green pools scattered about the cavern, after this is done he must pass the egg on to the Attacker.

Content Image

For the Attacker to spike the egg, he must collect spikes from the mushrooms scattered around the cavern, he must then pass the egg onto the defender for the final stage of the omega egg creation.

Content Image

To complete the egg the defender must heat the egg in the lava enough for the Queen to be harmed, after this he must pass it onto the collector.

Content Image

Once the Omega Egg is created, it can be loaded into an egg launcher an fired at the Queen, to produce a deadly effect on her. Once the Collector is in possession of the completed Omega Egg, he can fire it out of the egg launcher to finish her off, but be careful, she has penance spawn crawling out of her left and right, but they are easy to kill and you can use the conventional methods of fighting to eliminate them.

The Rewards

As each game is completed, you receive honor-points for whatever role you played, but not any type of experience. You must speak to Commander Connad located in the Entrance Hall to spend these points. You can either upgrade your Barbarian Assault level, buy new armor, or gamble these points.

Equipment Rewards

You can obtain some useful equipment via Barbarian Assault.

Note: Purple = Attack Stats, Blue = Defense Stats.
'Reqs' refers to the various levels required to wield the item, if any.
