Note: Black = Neutral Stat, Purple = Attack Stats, Blue = Defense Stats.
'Levels' refers to the minimum level requirements to wield an item.
Note: Each category of Magic Weapon will say the weapon's Autocasts. An Autocast is a spell you choose with that weapon so that, when you attack with that weapon and certain Autocast equipped, that spell will automatically be cast on your opponent. Note this only works for regular combat spells.
On this page you will find all the different types of weapons typically used by Mages in Runescape, along with information about each item.
Staves
A staff is the most common weapon used by a Mage, either when training the skill, or using it in the Wilderness or a Mini-Game. This section looks at the various staves on offer.
Basic Staves
The Autocast spells for all Basic Staves are all the regular Magic Combat spells - that is, all the strikes, bolts, blasts & waves.
Staff | Magic | Stab | Slash | Crush | Magic | Stab | Slash | Crush | Strength | Prayer |
| Staff | +4 | - | -1 | +7 | +4 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +3 | - |
| Magic Staff | +10 | +2 | -1 | +10 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +7 | - |
| White Magic Staff | +10 | +2 | -1 | +10 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +7 | +1 |
| Staff of Air | +10 | +3 | -1 | +9 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +6 | - |
| Staff of Water | +10 | +3 | -1 | +9 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +6 | - |
| Staff of Earth | +10 | +3 | -1 | +9 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +6 | - |
| Staff of Fire | +10 | +3 | -1 | +9 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +6 | - |
These staves are the most basic and cheapest. A regular 'Staff' has no other effect besides giving you some extra magical power (as all other staves do.) The Magic Staff does the same, along with giving you slightly more Magic stat bonuses. There are also Elemental Staffs of Air, Water, Earth and Fire. While wielding one of those staffs, they take place of the rune it refers to, supplying the player with an 'infinite supply' of those runes. For example, if you were using an Air Staff, you would not have to use Air Runes in any of your spells. These staves can be purchased at most magic stores, Zaff’s Staff Store in Varrock, and the Magic Guild in Yanille.
Battlestaves
The Autocast spells for all Battlestaves are all the regular Magic Combat spells - that is, all the strikes, bolts, blasts & waves.
Battlestaff | Magic | Stab | Slash | Crush | Magic | Stab | Slash | Crush | Strength | Levels |
| Battlestaff | +10 | +7 | -1 | +25 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +32 | - |
| Air Battlestaff | +10 | +7 | -1 | +25 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +32 | 30+ Magic/Attack |
| Water Battlestaff | +10 | +7 | -1 | +25 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +32 | 30+ Magic/Attack |
| Earth Battlestaff | +10 | +7 | -1 | +25 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +32 | 30+ Magic/Attack |
| Fire Battlestaff | +10 | +7 | -1 | +25 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +32 | 30+ Magic/Attack |
| Lava Battle Staff | +10 | +7 | -1 | +25 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +32 | 30+ Magic/Attack |
| Mud Battle Staff | +10 | +7 | -1 | +28 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +35 | 30+ Magic/Attack |
| Steam Battle Staff | +10 | +7 | -1 | +28 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +35 | 30+ Magic/Attack |
These staves are stronger than regular staves, physically and magically, meaning they provide higher stat bonuses in terms of both Melee and Magic. However, they also cost more. You can purchase a plain Battlestaff at any regular staff store, and make an Elemental Battlestaff (Air, Earth, Fire or Water) by adding the appropriate type of Enchanted Orb to the end of it. For example, if you wanted to make a Air Battlestaff, you would have to obtain a Battlestaff and an Enchanted Air Orb, and use the Orb on the Battlestaff (you would need the necessary Crafting level). See the Crafting Guide for more details.
Lava, Steam & Mud Battle Staffs are obtained by killing certain monsters. They cannot be made by players. They provide players with an unlimited supply of two kinds of runes when wielded. The Lava Battle Staff provides unlimited Earth and Fire runes, while the Mud Battle Staff provides unlimited Earth and Water runes. The Steam Battle Staff provides unlimited Fire and Water runes.
Enchanted Battlestaves
The Autocast spells for all Enchanted BattleStaves are all the regular Magic Combat spells - that is, all the strikes, bolts, blasts & waves.

| Mystic Fire Staff | +10 | +10 | -1 | +40 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +50 | 40+ Magic/Attack |
| Mystic Lava Staff | +10 | +10 | -1 | +40 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +50 | 40+ Magic/Attack |
| Mystic Mud Staff | +10 | +10 | -1 | +40 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +50 | 40+ Magic/Attack |
| Mystic Steam Staff | +10 | +10 | -1 | +40 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +50 | 40+ Magic/Attack |
Any Battlestaff can be taken to Thormac the Sorcerer (located in the Sorcerors Tower, south-west of Seers Village), to be upgrade and given more physical and magical power, adding to the stat bonuses they give a player when wielded. You must have completed the Scorpion Catcher Quest for him to upgrade your staff. For Thormac to upgrade your Battlestaff, you will need to pay him 40,000 coins. When Battlestaves are upgraded, they are then called Mystic Battlestaves, and their names will be similar to 'Mystic Air Battlestaff'.
The Staff of Iban
The Autocast spells for the Staff of Iban are all the regular Magic Combat spells - that is, all the strikes, bolts, blasts & waves.
Iban Staff | Magic | Stab | Slash | Crush | Magic | Stab | Slash | Crush | Strength |
| Staff of Iban | +10 | +10 | -1 | +40 | +10 | +2 | +3 | +1 | +50 |
To cast an Iban Blast spell, you need to complete the

However, you may only cast the Iban Blast spell 25 times before having to journey back through the pass and find the place where Iban previously was, and recharge your staff in the well.
The Slayer Staff
The Autocast spells for the Slayer Staff are Crumble Undead, Slayer Dart, and the four Wave Spells.
