Fletching EXP Rewards
The art of Fletching is a skill well known to many RuneScape members for it's ability to make ranged equipment from various wood and metals. Most of the arrows, darts, and throwing knives you see come from fletchers in RuneScape, which illustrates the popularity of the skill.
Getting Started
There are three kinds of items that you can make to gain experience in Fletching: Weapons (Bows and Crossbows), Ammo for the bows and crossbows, and Darts. Info on all of these can be found below.
Weapons
The two main weapons for Ranged are the Crossbow and Bow - information on making them is found below.
Bows
To make bows, you must have Logs (type depends on your level), bow string(s), and a knife.
Steps:
1. Cut the Log with a knife.
2. Select either Shortbow or Longbow. If you do not have the required level for the log, you will get a message explaining this.
3. Afterwards, add the Bowstring to your Shortbow or Longbow.
The levels needed to cut logs into bows, logs needed, and experience given are shown below. Note: This table does not include experience for stringing the bow, see the following table for that experience, and total experience.
Log | Level | Bow | Experience |
| Normal | 5 | | Unstrung Shortbow | 5 |

Steps:
1. Cut the log with a knife.
2. Select the crossbow stock.
3. Add the appropriate limb (see Smithing Guide) to the stock.

| Runite Crossbow | 100 | 50 | 200 |
Ammo
The bows and crossbows will need ammo!
Arrows
To make Arrows, you require the following: Normal Logs, Feathers, and Arrowtips(type depends on your level). (If you already have Arrow Shafts, you will not need Normal Logs. If you already have Headless Arrows, you will not need either Normal Logs or Feathers.)
Steps:
1. Cut the normal logs into Arrow Shafts
2. Attach Feathers to Arrow Shafts
3. Use Arrowtips on Arrow Shafts, and your Arrows are complete.
When you cut a Normal Log into Arrow Shafts, you will create 15 Arrow Shafts, and obtain 4.95 Experience. When adding Feathers to Arrow Shafts, you will attach up to 15 Feathers at once (depending on the total number of Feathers and/or Arrow Shafts in your inventory) and receive 1 Experience per Feather attached. This process creates Headless Arrows.
The table below shows the experience gained by attaching various kinds of Arrowtips to Headless Arrows, the level needed, and the types of arrows created. Note: the experience value is per 1 Arrowtip attached.
Arrowtips | Level | Experience | Arrows Made |
| Bronze | 1 | 1.3 | | Bronze |
| Iron | 15 | 2.5 | | Iron |
| Steel | 30 | 5.0 | | Steel |

Metal Bolts
To make bolts, you will need the crossbow bolts made from the metal you want (see Smithing Guide) and use feathers with them.
The experience values only apply to making one bolt.

* - Bronze Crossbow Bolts can be used be freeplayers.
** - Silver Crossbow Bolts are made by smelting a Silver Bar whilst having a bolt mould (available in crafting stores) in your inventory. You will also need a crafting level of 21.
Bolt Tips
Metal bolts can be tipped to create new types of bolts. These bolts can be enchanted to add a special effect to them (see Magic: Regular Spells). Once the bolts are tipped, they cannot be poisoned. Most tips are acquired by using a chisel on the respective gem. Each gem will give you 12 tips. Onyx will give you 24 instead.
Note: The experience values are for each gem cut or tip attached.

Small oysters yields 6 tips whilst large oysters yield 24. For more information on how to acquire oysters, please look at the Fishing Guide.
Mithril Grapple
Mithril grapples are used for Agility (see Agility Guide).
Barb Tips
To acquire Barb Tips, you will first have to access the Ranging Guild. Once at the guild you will need to take part in the archery competition, at the cost of two hundred gold every ten shots. When you have one hundred and forty competition tickets they can be exchanged at the ticket merchant, found in the northern part of the guild, for thirty barb bolt tips.
Darts
To make Darts, you require the following: Feathers, Dart Tips (depending on your level). You must complete the quest The Tourist Trap in order to make these.
Step:
1. Attach Feathers to Dart tips, and your Darts are complete.
The table below shows the experience gained by making various types of darts, the level needed, and the types of darts created. Note: the experience value is per 1 Dart created.

Ogre Items
Ogres also have some items to contribute to fletching.
Ogre Arrows
Ogre Arrows are made to be used with an Ogre Bow, which you recieve from the Big Chompy Bird Hunting quest. You use the Ogre Bow alongside with the Ogre Arrows to kill Chompy birds. To make Ogre arrows, you need the following: Knife, Achey Tree Logs, Chisel, Feathers, and Wolf Bones. When fletching Achey tree logs, you get a random amount of shafts, so make sure that you get a good amount. Every shaft requires 4 feathers. After attaching the feathers to the arrow shafts, you must use a chisel on the Wolf Bones to creat Wolf Bone tips. Each set of bones makes two tips. Attach the tips to the arrows, and you're ready to kill some Chompy Birds.
Arrowtips | Level | Experience | Arrows Made |
| Wolfbone | 5 | 1 | | Ogre Arrows |
Brutal Arrows
Brutal Arrows are a slightly more powerful version of normal arrows, however, they are differently made. You also need to use an Ogre Comp Bow to fire them. To make and use both Brutal Arrows and the Ogre Composite Bow, you'll need to complete the Zogre Flesh Eaters Quest.
Ogre Comp Bow
To make the comp bow, you need an Achey Log, one set of Wolf Bones, and a knife. You must have the Wolf Bones in your inventory when fletching the Bow. After making the bow, string is as usual.
Log | Level | Bow | Experience |
| Achey Log | 30 | | 45 |
Bow | Level | Bow | Total Experience |
| Unstrung Ogre Comp Bow | 30 | | 45 |
Brutal Arrows
To make Brutal Arrows, you follow the same method as you do for normal arrows, with a couple exceptions. Instead of normal logs, you use Achey Logs, instead of Arrow Tips, you use nails, and instead of 1 feather per shaft, you use 4. These Brutal Arrows follow the example set by Ogre Arrows above, but instead of Wolfbone Tips, these use Nails.
Arrowtips | Level | Experience | Name | Arrows Made |
| Bronze | 7 | 1.4 | Bronze Brutal | |
| Iron | 18 | 2.6 | Iron Brutal | |
| Steel | 33 | 5.08 | Steel Brutal | |
| Mithril | 49 | 7.5 | Mithril Brutal | |
| Adamant | 62 | 10.1 | Adamant Brutal | |
| Rune | 77 | 12.5 | Rune Brutal | |
Locations
Throughout RuneScape, there are areas devoted to certain skills, or specific aspects of skills. Fletching has some area-specific aspects to it. For example, Achey Trees are found only in Feldip Hills, a location south of Yanille, and South of Gu'Tanoth(Ogre City). I have included a picture, as well as a section of mini-map to help you locate the Achey Trees. Remember, if you get lost, always use the RuneScape World map.
There are also locations where you can get other fletching items quickly. For example, an area heavy with Regular Trees, or Evergreen Trees can be usefull for cutting large amounts of Arrow shafts. I have also Included one such place for you. This area is located north of Falador, and slightly south-east of Goblin Village. Again, with this picture, I have included a piece of mini-map so you can better identify this location.
Several shops throughout RuneScape will assist you in beginning Fletching, or just stocking up on supplies for use at higher levels. These are listed below:
Shop | Location | Info |
Fishing Guild Shop | Fishing Guild | Feathers are sold here |
Ranging/Fletching Shop | Catherby | Arrowheads are sold here |
Dargaud | Ranging Guild | Sells arrowheads |
Fishing Shop | Port Sari | Feathers are sold here |
Fishing Shop | Shilo Village | Feathers are sold here |
Extra Fletching Info
There are some other, extra things that you should know about while raising fletching:
